Origins: The Awakening

It was one minute before January 1st of 2012.

Everyone in Oceania was cheering, dancing, eating and waiting with their glasses filled with champagne. Some blew on their horns. Others danced, shaking their festive hats, that said Happy New Year. Others just waited, wearing glasses that glittered in darkness.

The countdown began.

"Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two... Happy New Year!" Everyone celebrated.

The pyrotechnic show began. But, deep on Earth, something else happened. A white light blinded everyone, but not only in Oceania. The whole Planet Earth, all of a sudden, became white and bright. On every inch of Earth, men, women and children screamed and cried. "It's the end of the world! The Mayans were right!" People cried out loud, in french, english, portuguese, chinese, and other languages.

The light started to fade and people sighed with relief. However, when they thought it was over, a strong quake shook the whole planet. The noise was deafening. After several minutes of despair, everything stopped and the whole Planet Earth lapsed into silence and darkness, along with its inhabitants.

"What was that?" A woman questioned. "Where did he come from?" A man replied with another question. His eyes fell on a man, laying down. Was he dead? He couldn't be sure. And what was he wearing? "Oh, Maker! Dear, look around." The woman said, scared with what she was seeing. The man looked up and opened his mouth, astonished. There were bodies everywhere, all wearing those strange clothes. Some had tall glasses still clapped on their hands, and others seemed to be wearing strange looking objects on their faces, and awkward helmets. 'Where did they come from?' Was the only thing that crossed that couple's minds.
